Lucas is at rest

I am sorry to have to tell you this sad news, but Lucas was put to sleep after his quality of life deteriorated greatly due to FIP. It all happened within a few days and Tedra did everything she could. She ordered extensive tests at the vet to make sure he couldn't be brought back to a healthy state. None of us believe in letting a cat suffer to the end, and she held him while the vet let him go. It was shocking as he was gone before I knew he was sick, it happened so fast. (I have been in Nashville for a week.)

It makes me happy to know that he was able to run, play, climb, and get lots of TLC for a few extra months. He was so pitiful when I first found him but he led a good life for at least a little while. I am so thankful to Tedra and all the volunteers at Joey's Feline Friends for loving Lucas during the last few months, I know they are upset as well.

I have to admit I have cried several times but I am also so thankful for what Lucas taught me about enjoying life fully. He challenged me to do more than I thought I could, and other cats will benefit from the lessons he taught me. Thank you for sharing Lucas with me, I know he was loved by many.

(Pictures are being emailed to me in a few days and that will be the last entry in this blog)

Oh Alisha, our heart goes out to you. You and Tedra gave Lucas a chance at love that he probably would not have had. You were his angels and he will be waiting for you at The Bridge.

You gave him the best possible life. There arent many people who would have given so much of themselves as you did.

He is happy at Rainbow Bridge now, free of the diapers, running in the daisies!

Dear Alisha, Tedra & friends of Lucas,

We're so saddened to hear this news. You did so much for Lucas, and what a wonderful life he led. FIP is an awful, relentless disease and you did all you could for him. Lucas knows that and loves you all for it so much! He is happy and free at Rainbow Bridge now, leaping and jumping, dancing with joy that he is free of diapers and owies, but filled with your love.

Fly free, little Lucas. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Much love from Finnegan, Buddy & mom

I am so sorry to hear about Lucas. I agree. These precious little animals come into our lives for such a brief time but they teach us so much. That is why God gave them to us. We may take care of them but who really gets the benefits?

You blessed Lucas with a very good life and lots of love. He blessed you with playfulness, his ability to overcome amazing odds and an amazing love for life.

We will never forget you Lucas.

Alisha, what you did for Lucas was simply an amazing thing, and what made it even more special was that other people who visited your blog were able to see what was possible for pets with disorders or disabilities. You showed people that these animals can lead full lives and be very comforting to the people who tend to them. Instead of seeing something wrong with Lucas, you met him where he was at and helped him in his plight. I feel I have learned a great deal from you thanks to your sharing through this blog.

Lucas will be patiently waiting for you to reunite with him, and I am sure he will tell you thank you when you see him again. He was sent to you to teach you something that you needed to know, and even if you don't know that lesson right now, you will in time. My heart breaks with your's at his passing...

Oh Alisha, how sad. At least he knew love before he left, and kindness. Probably the biggest kindness was helping him to the bridge and out of pain.

You helped make his last months happy and comfortable. At least his passing was peaceful and far more humane had you not found him and tried to help.

So... does anyone else understand why I am so proud to be Alisha's father??
