Running out of options

I talked to the Boo Boo Zoo and they don't have a secured yard for cats but he gave me a number for someone who does. I called her and she said they are full, I think she said they have 15 cats now. She suggested the Feline Foundation but I think I already contacted them.

So what do you think is better? An unsecured outdoor home or euthanasia? Is it better for him to face the risks of outdoor life, though there are less in Hawaii, or be put to sleep?

I'd like to tell you that I'm going to committ to Lucas full time and have him diapered inside, but I can't. It's not fair to my cats, whom he bullies, and it would cut down so much on my time and money to rescue more cats. And there are at least five outdoor cats for me to deal with when I move.

So, what do I do?

Alisha,
I would definately try to find him an unsecured outdoor home. I think he would be very happy outside as long as he was able to get good food. He obviously needs to be nuetered but aside from that he seems to be doing fine, maybe he would be less of a fighter post-nueter. He is looking so good even after his stay outside and it sure beats being PTS.

Wow, I wouldn't be in your shoes about this one for anything. He seems to enjoy being outside so much. I know you tried so many of the animal shelters here, and even though it may not seem like, your answer to your prayers may have been the best without placing him here. I don't want to name places, but some of the "shelters" here on Oahu are not good at all. There are several who do not take care of the pets at all and there is horrid overcrowding and disease. It is why I support the Hawaiin Humane Society even though they do do euthanasia. They have 100% adoption for the animals who are able to be places, but the stray problem is so horrid here that out of approx. 18,000 stray cats that they picked up or dealt with approx. 10,000 had to be euthanized because of disease or unadoptability because of being so feral. They do place any cat that they can and do not euthanize unless absolutely necessary. They also nueter and release here to help the feral cat problem. They are trying so hard and some of the other shelters are good, but some are definately not. The HHS tries to shut down the ones that are abusive, overcrowded or not taking care of the pets properly, but it is a big job. Anyways, sorry to lecture and hope Lucas does okay. ~Poi Mom Jane

You should post your dilemma in the pets discussion forum section of craigslist. There are a lot of knowleable people that might give you ideas. Bittenbyakitten is one of them, she's a experienced rescuer. Anyway, just a thought. Please don't put him to sleep! :(

Alisha, Have you thought about joining any of the cat groups at like Yahoo to see if someone could take him?

I know most of them keep their kitties inside but some don't.

I know a lady that belongs to a bunch of them and could mention Lucas. My thing is how do you know someone is going to give him the kinda of home you would like?

I wish I could take him but with 21, I can't have any more bullies! LOL!

Personally if it was me and he is happy outside and it is as safe as outside can be, I would let him be outside. Tragedy could hit but think of how much time he would have to have fun and play.

Euthanisia ends it today, without a chance. JMHO.

I wish you the best of luck, blessings, Christie

I agree with Nikki. I think if you could find him a home where he could roam outside and still get the love and attention he needed, then it would be well worth the effort. I also agree with her comments about neutering. I am a very calm and better male for it!

Good luck to you, and our family will keep you in our prayers.
