I need help from the more experienced bloggers. How do I respond to comments? Am I supposed to add a comment? Do you check the comment section for replies? Do I answer in my blog? Make a comment on your blog? Email you? I am used to a forum conversation so I am not sure how to answer your questions or say thank you!
Also how does Secret Paws work and how can I sign up?

I either answer on my blog or go to the blog of the person who asked and leave an answer there. Sometimes both. I'll answer on my blog in case others are interested in reading it, but go to the questioners blog & leave a note that there is an answer at my blog & to go check it out. Some of us have become close and have exchanged e-mails and write regularily but I think most blog questions are answered via blog.
Secret Paws is great! The next one will probably be at Christmas time so just check Diva Kitty's blog or the Secret Paws blog from time to time & you'll see it. Diva Kitty's mom organizes the whole thing. You just e-mail her (which she will provide the address a the time) and tell her you want to take part. Say you want to enter Lucas... You email her with some of his likes (cat nip, feather toys) and she will send his name & your address to someone else who is entered and you will get the name & address of another kitty-your Secret Paw- in return and some of his wishes. There is usually a $7.oo limit and a time limit too. You can enter as many pets as you want, in a group or single. It's just like the Secret Santa that some workplaces have at holiday time. Lots of fun. Hope I made sense.

I think S-3's mom answered it well. I would only add that answering a comment question at the commenter's blog can sometimes be confusing for someone who is reading their post and reads your off-topic comment. I prefer to comment back within my blog to keep the flow consistent.
You know, though, everyone has their own preference and, because blogging should be fun, everything works.
